If you're looking for optimal growth, you'll need 3 things - a clean and appropriate environment, space, and good nutrition. I presume you're keeping check with the other two. If I remember correctly, while they're mostly carnivorous they do appreciate some greens every now and again. Try adding peas or spirulina to some meals and see how they like it.

Otherwise all I'd recommend is variety. Using dried foods, particularly high quality ones, provides your fish with a balanced diet, and ensures that they're receiving their required micronutrients. Other fresh sources, such as small pieces of fish, or prawn, will likely be appreciated by your fish as well.

    Good luck.

My GBR and GT love a Hikari Algae Wafer every few days.
Your JD should be the same.

Nothing in this world beats Earthworms from growth. I use Earthworms on mine for grow out. I tried all the commercial stuff , but never got the same results.

i've found that jack dempseys tend to be slow growers in general. but as mentioned above variety is good. a decent pellet is usually easiest with some blood worms and earthworms thrown in every so often. mine used to love earth worms but from what i understand they have alot of fat in them or something along those lines.
