So i've taken the plunge and moved my empty 1.6m (about 5.5ft) to my office. My arms were still sore the next day as myself and a security guard carried it alone, up a staircase:weird:

So now it's in place and I cant wait to get going...only thing is im not sure yet what to do with it!

1st thing is to get it cleaned, get new poly-styrene as it was badly damaged with the move and all the carrying:( then i need to strengthen the table it is standing on, then sort the plumbing for the sump. i must say though that it looks much bigger in my office than in my house

What are suggestions....I am a BEEEEG Malawi fan though, so naturally leaning towards that.

I know where you can get some awesome rocks in East London for your tank! (just realised you no longer live in PE)

yes, i used to have a 3ft with some plants in it. As soon as the vallis got nice and big i would plant it in the malawi tank, it would look awesome with the malawis but would only last 1 month max before they were all eaten and only roots left

is that the table the tank will be permanently standing on? if so I'm rather worried about the overhang you have there. oh and edited my post after I realised youre in EL not PE as your Location still says

Yeah it is a pity that they eat plants, imagine a nice vallis wall and a nice tank full of malawis.

ok, I have cleaned the tank and acquired a sheet of black abs plastic that i will be using for a background. Next step is to get the table/stand sorted. Now that the tank is cleaned, I am super excited to get it filled :cheesy:

    Update :
So far i have stuck the abs plastic sheet to the back of the tank.
Then i decided to move it to a different spot, it is now standing behind me, needless to say that i will be re-arranging my office so that I can look directly at it
I am battling with the plumbing as I cannot find exactly what i need wrt bulkhead sizes etc here in East London! The current plumbing setup is temporary until I find what i am looking for.

    Pics attached...

Had some leftover PFS that i brought from home this morning to see how it will look as i could not decide between PFS or black substrate. I must admit that the PFS looks good because of the black background ! I also just put the rocks i had in, I wanted to move the rocks from the empty side of the tank so that when i put the rest of the substrate in, I can just gooi. So without even thinking about scaping, I think that it looks really nice the way i just packed the rocks .... (I don't even use pvc pipes in my tanks, it is also a loose piece that was laying on the other side of the tank)

So water is in, and busy clearing up. With my last batch of water that i brought from home, there was a hitch-hicker  One of the smaller malawis hitched a ride in one of the shells i brought from the tank at home!! he survived the whole night outside on the stoep(undercover) on the drum!!! he is in the tank now....
