Bought this guy as a Johanni but when i googled it i could not find one that looks like this. I would rather say its a peacock Malawi. R27p/f if it helps.

(sorry about the flash, there is a mirror at the back of the tank(on the outside))

Looks like one of the aulonocara species, male, could be A.nyassae but I can also be very mistaken. Beautiful fish. Just finished setting up an aulonocara tank. And if you got it at that size for R27.00 you got a bargin. Juviniles sell for around R60.00 to R70.00 and thet haven't even colured up yet. In what tank do you have him in and with what fish?

That looks like a ngara, expect to pay anywhere from R30 upwards for them.

Aulonocara stuartgranti is the species, then Ngara or Zunga is the area in the lake where you would find that particular fish. Colours do differ slightly especially with Zunga which has alot more blue over the head and dorsal fin including a white stripe in the dorsal, did you check the link that I did pm you Franna?

Thanks neilh. Can't wait for those colours to come. and thanks Riyadh for the very useful link.

A bit off topic but would i be able to put a uv light above my tank to bring out the colours or should i just up the lighting a bit. Since i changed my white gravel to black its made the light a lot less effective.

If thats a pic of the exact fish, then it's not an aulonocara at all actually..it's a copadichromis kadango which is starting to colour up..how big is it?

Then it's definately a copadichromis kadango..not an aulonocara of any type.
