    Hi All

I'm a newbie to the hobby so I'll probably have many questions. I have a 100l moderately planted tank with no Co2. Occupants include 4x Angels, 1x ottocinclus, 1x khuli loach and 1x bristlenose pleco.
Looking forward to some great advice. What species of schooling fish is best to keep as a newbie, looking for fairly active and interesting species.

    Thanks
    Boebie
oh yes how many is enough for my setup

i would say 10-15 neons... but i'm not sure if its a good idea to put neons with angels.
maybe about 5 tetra... watch out for fin nippers...

the 4 angels might get to big for the tank i take it your tank is more or less 90cm x 30cm x 45cm more or less.
What kind of filter do you have?
what is your current maintenance program for your tank?
do you test your water parameters at all?

i had 6 angels and 20 neons in a tank the angels fought amoungst them selves but never looked at the neons.

Agree with you Butcherman. Angels dont bother neons.

i think if you have angels in smaller numbers they look for other fish to dominate, but in bigger groups they try dominate eachother.
    ....
boebie i think you already have a schooling fish arent angels considered a schooling fish?

@ Butcherman: Angels are actually shoaling fish i.e. they swim together in the same general area but don't move as one large group usually. Schooling fish 'move as one' in a group.

I'd suggest Cardinal tetras as they are larger than neons - you never know whether your Angels are going to decide to take a bite outta your neons, some do and some don't.

 No problem bucherman - you'll actually be amazed at the number of people that think that, I also thought the same before I actually started keeping angels and researched them etc :)

I introduced 30 neons to a tank with angels and discus a few months ago. You should have seen how the angels and discus stalked the neons and attacked them!! It was crazy to watch! I think they got 1 or 2 of them and then decided it was too much effort for such small snacks. Hasn't happened since.

Good schooling fish - Rummy noses. Serpae Tetras, Bloodfins, Cardinals, etc.

ok ive got 2 large angels, and decided it was time for neon tetras, i bought 10, and while the bag was stil drifting on the surface for the temp. diference the angels already started attacking them, ok i let them loose anyway, and the angels chased the crap out of them and a ball and a mawl out of them, ive now got 3 left of the original 10 a month later and no more chasing is going on, ive added some of my platy fry 19 in total on monday because they are now neon tetra size and only one got chomped and they are all living hapily now,

I'd go with 10 rummy noses. Should be ok in your tank.

    +1 on Rummies

Cardinals never schooled that tightly in my setup, where the Rummies are always together

Option from left field, Dwarf Rainbows. Either Neons or Threadfins if you can find them

Absolutely agree on the rummy nose tetras - one of my favourites. Just remember that they are extremely sensitive to water conditions so make sure that your tank is properly cycled and that you do regular maintenance otherwise you may find yourself losing some (and they aren't the cheapest of fish) or having really sad looking fish.
