I've heard that some of you use root tabs for you're plants and I was wondering if these are a special type of aquatic root tab or just the normal type at garden centre/hardware store?
I saw these at a local hardware store could I use them, and how thick gravel layer do I need to keep them from leaching into water ( I also have some burrowing sna1ls) ?

I use the same brand, just the 5:1:5 composition. They do ok, just don't have any micro ferts in it.

But I don't think they will be safe with the burrowing snails. Rather go with the Seachem brand or something specifically for aquariums.

No. You shouldn't use ANYTHING that it for terrestrial plants ("For beautiful flowing houseplants") in your tank. Rather go to the LPS and buy the tetra or sera root tabs.

I agree with Zoom on this... It's the wrong formulation to be used in a tank. There are lots of Aquarium versions on the market. Like Seachem, ADA, etc... They are made specifically for this reason.

Thanx guyz. Believe me if there are root tabs at lfs I wouldn't even have started this thread. Was just looking for simple extra nutrition for the plants. The only other available product is pfp, but too major and not up to to the possible leaching/leaking.

@Sean J & @Wyvren thanx alot guys. Was just playing around with ideas for future. I actually still want to build a new canopy for more/better lighting. Currently I only have 1wpg, so don't want to waste the effort for now.
I have no idea why I haven't thought about posting, I have some family living close to Jhb.
Thanx anyways I'll keep it in mind.
