So im upgrading my fry tank from a 4 foot to a 5 foot extra high tank. And making the 4 foot a sump for my 6 foot breeding tank. I am looking around for return pumps and was wondering what you guys use. Its a 700l tank and il be using a 2000lph internal filter with the sump.

Personally, I trust eheim. I've had 2 of their return pumps and I've never had issues with them. They're a little more pricey, but they run a lower wattage which saves on the electricity bill. They work. I've also used hailea pumps. They're ok, but I prefer eheim.

Aquarium size? Pump lph ? Pump head? I know with most pumps you can almost half the lph rating as it has to pump against gravity.

most good quality pumps will have a curve, you can work out kind what flow will be. I am trying for 4 turn overs of my tank a hour threw my sump, the pump is a resin and ran it into a bucket fist to check and was pretty close to curve on the box.

500L tank, 2 x 2500 LPH Boyu pumps - 1m head so probably pumping 200LPH from each pump.I KNOW guys will say circulating water 8x' an hour thro the sump is too much - but my water parameters could not be more perfect. It works for my conditions.
