I know a few of you wanted to see this, and a few of you have indeed seen this in person, but I thought I would share my marine tank with you guys...

    Full Tank:

From the side: (Roughly what I see from the couch)

    Some Zoa type polyps:

And my little blue mushroom, which has evidently multiplied!

    Zoanthids:

And the only semi nice pic of one of the clowns!

So this is what I have been up to in my absence. I will always pop back in here every now and again, I just wanted you guys to see this too....

Damn... This should probably be in the Members Setups forum...

I would really like a yellow Tang, Powder Brown Tang, Mandarin, maybe some Goldies, Cleaner Shrimp, Peppermint Shrimp, Blue legged Hermits, Possibly Firefish...

Man there is so much to choose from. Still want to get some more Corals too... We shall see.

It'd be a nice idea, but the truth is that we're a sister site to a marine-only forum, Marine Aquariums South Africa (MASA), so most marine users are sent that way.

On the other hand, we could really do with a brackish forum :blink1:

PS: Slagster, how's about some info on the tank? Type of lights, tank dimensions filtration etc.

    Ok...

The tank is 1.2m x 0.6 x 0.6, it has a 200L sump which houses a Deltec APH 525 skimmer, a DSB, which has about 20 kilos of Aragamax sugar fine sand. The return is a Eheim 3000 compact. I have roughly 30kg's of live rock in the tank and a couple of smaller bits in the sump. I am running an extra filter with carbon and purigen.

    The lighting is a Real inc light unit, with 2 x 150watt metal Halides, 2 x 54watt T5's and 2 x Blue LED moonlights.

I have 3 x Seio's in the tank which provide an extra 10 000 liters per hour of flow onto the live rock and around it.

Tank maintenance isn't much. It's the initial setup that costs a fortune. But, I haven't been paying for this setup out of my own pocket. I've been selling off my freshwater stuff, and buying the pieces over a long, slow period. So it hasn't really cost me too much.

But, that being said, it's bloody expensive to set one of these baby's up. The skimmer alone, brand new is R5500.

ya ,i figuired the initial was a penny load ,but now
when i have kept discus long enough, then i will take the road less travelled[marine]

you could have made a skimmer ,
lots of people made their marine equipment ,like i say a DIY skimmer ,calcium reactor etc ,
i had a non diy skimmer lying around somewere in my house ! got it with my 1.2m

You have an unused skimmer lying around? Do you have a model name or something?
