I think we all struggle to find the fish we would REALLY like to have in our tanks, but I've managed to get a combination of fish from the same old usuals for sale in the stores, that I find really stimulating and fun to watch.

It may be a somewhat odd combination for some, but my tank is alive and bursting with activity.

My current combination is Khuli Loaches, Corys, Ottos, Female Bettas in various colours, Apistos Female (RIP Spike) and some White Skirt Tetras.

    What is your favourite combination?

(Please add photos of your tanks - mine will follow as soon as I locate my camera...)

Nice to see you again @Dinky. I love Kuhli loaches as well... At least when they're a bit bigger and too fat to hide away all the time:)

South American setup - placid (relatively) cichlids, larger tetras etc

Well, I can say confidently what I DON'T like: Firstly, big, aggressive, bombastic cichlids that destroy plants and dig craters in any gravel you try to place in the tank, and secondly, all sorts of plastic ornaments like shipwrecks and divers and ruins - I just don't like the fake look, prefer to keep it on the natural side. Otherwise, a nice collection of weird looking fish like Polypterus, African Butterfly Fish, Archerfish, etc can look very good, so can a peaceful setup large schools of Neons or other colourful tetras and barbs together with Corys in a well planted tank. The decorative value of a tank is very important to me, so any combination of colourful or interesting looking creatures that doesn't destroy everything works for me, really.

I quite like my current combo: Angels, Polypterus, 2 golden gouramis, a far sized Synodontis, some Clown Loaches and a terribly ugly Spotted Talking Cat whom one sees once every few weeks only. I had a school of Neons in there as well until the Polypterus got too big and had a midnight banquet one night: 10 Neons polished off in one night, that was the end of that. :p

@Jwh - one would need a monster tank as well! I love the Giant Gourami they've got at the Pretoria Zoo. Ugly as hell but with plenty of personality and loves attention.

I have always loved SA cichlids (love my oscars) severums, acaras, geophagus and my clown loaches

However, in the last 2 years, after much arguing with @Cesar over his choice of fish... I have completly fallen in love with the Arowanas, stingrays and the ugly Polypterus which is too cute... they are amazing fish with amazing characters....
So... now.. I want a nice aro for myself...
Snoopy's breeders are very keen to send to SA but its taking a bit of saving up.... but will get there

Must say...I quite enjoy the setup I have currently in my 5ft planted tank.

Apistogramma Trifasciata, CPD's, Microdevario Kubotai, Boraras Brigittae, Oto's and Amano Shrimp

(Still unsure if I should add the school of Panda Cories or Pygmy Cories from my fishroom as well)

So all in all...NOT fish you readily see in stores up here :)

@Deadpool - Definitely not the usual pet shop varieties you've got there! I am SO jealous! Where did you get the Apistogramma?

Just my luck. Now that I have scaled down from 5 tanks to 1, I find someone breeding Apistos!

The male in my Avatar, was named Spike.(RIP) I still have the female left. She's keeping everyone in the tank in check. Before them I had "Flash" - a beautiful but very shy Orange Flash. Broke my heart when he died.

Please let me know if and when you have a Double Red male available for me.

What website? Would love to visit!
