    Hi all,
Woke up this morning to my Betta fish looked really bad, he has clamped fins and an odd white thing hanging off the front of his body. He only seems to be using his left pectoral fin to swim, his right is clamped to his body.
I have had him for 3 months and the tank is fully cycled.
I read that it could be beneficial to add rooibos to the water so I have done so but he is not looking any better.
Later I noticed he has a dark patch on the bottom part of his body and his fins.

Please help, I have tried to do research but cannot find anything to match!

He previously had ich when I first got him ,and rested against the filter intake which resulted in his fins fraying and falling off. They had finally started growing back.

    I have included pictures

Hi im no expert but with the slime coat flaking in the one area on his fins looks more towards velvet and the ich was just an secondary issue. Only meds i have had success with was prazi pro. You can crank up the temp with 2deg aswell.

Sorry I couldn't help more. Never had a betta before. These problems we face starts at the fish stores already. Especially bettas, keeping them in 10 x 10cm tanks. If you can call it a tank.

Thank you for your help, it is very possible that it could be velvet but I haven’t noticed him scratching on anything.
He was absolutely perfect yesterday, but he seems to be deteriorating pretty fast as the day progresses unfortunately :(

Unfortunately he passed away last night, I am devastated, it took 1 day and he just rapidly progressed :(
I am worried about getting any other fish now because I don’t know what it was. Any advice on how to prepare the tank if I decide to get another fish?

So sorry to hear. I think what you should do is clean the entire tank and decorations etc. with a hydrogen peroxide solution. What evet you put in that tank now will also get sick. Even if you replace the water. Can your gravel be cleaned? or it is a soil substrate? I had a look on the photo and it looks like normal gravel.

@Nicole so sorry to hear :(
Disease = the dark side of fishkeeping. It’s such a horrible feeling... Hope you come right in getting the tank ready for future fishies. Keep us updated!

Just make sure everything is 100% rinsed and dry before you start.

Sorry for you loss. What I would suggest is Jik the Tank as is leave it for an day . Rinse all and refill with water and anti chlorine. Let it re- cycle.

Note Jik is corrosive to metals and can cause issues to the filter pump parts.

Hello @Nicole. I'm so sorry about your fish..
I've just checked on mine now while feeding, since mine isn't coming to eat like he usually does.. I see something white between his pectoral fins and was wondering if it's the same thing you had?
Here's a picture, sorry for the terrible quality, had to zoom in to get it

Hi, it’s difficult to see in that picture.
He did have something white between his fins, he also had what almost looked like white fluff on his fins.
Maybe just keep an eye on him? My boy wasn’t swimming and had his fins all clamped close to his body, he just seemed to want to hide and rest. He did eat a little when I first noticed but as the day went on he lost his appetite.
    Let me know!

Oh I see, OK then it's probably not the same, as my little ones fins are flapping OK..
Last night he was sitting on the filter so I chopped up some garlic and tried feeding him, he didn't eat it so I left a few pieces near him and I see this morning they are gone, either the current blew them off, one of the other fishes ate it or Maybe he ate it.. But he's come out from the corner now at least
