any idea what this could be that is attaching itself to my 30l tank? It doesnt look like GSA to me, its white in colour and is actually hard when you remove it from the glass. It floats around a bit and then attaches itself to the glass again as if it was statically charged or something. Very weird. Dont get it in my 3 foot tank at all.

@azurekoi doesn't completely look like a snail to me... There is quite a few insect larvae that it could be but to make a positive ID i would need a specimen... It could also be related to woodlice... As i said before making an ID on a photo of something like this is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT!!!

Just a few questions to get to a well educated guess though:
    1. Have you in the last month before spotting them added any new plants to your tank?
    2. Are there any kind of fish in your tank that will eat snails?
    3. Is the tank covered with a lid (with no wholes bigger than 1cm diameter)?
    4. Is the tank inside or outside the house?

(These answers is going to help a lot with the ID @CharlieB)

@BugMan, Thanks for your help. To answer your questions:

    1) Yes I have added plants but they were already on the glass if I remember correctly
    2) I only have red eye'd tetras in this tank. They seem to eat anything but not sure about snails.
    3) Yes it is covered with one hole about 2cm in diameter
    4) It is inside in the kitchen close to a window but gets no direct sunlight.

    Hope this helps.

Its a freshwater limpet(which is not really related to marine limpets) Specific species or even genus would troublesome to find. How big is that little guy approximately?

Congratulations! They are(IMO) very cool, and pretty much harmless

I've had these snails on a few occasions over the years.... pretty sure they are snails/Limpets and not insect larvae....

@Mzungu i am with you on the fact that these are little limpets... But i have a key with which i could go up to species level... But for that i would need a specimen...

@CharlieB, just let them be! I would be most grateful if some of them popped up in one of my tanks! If they do become a problem, which I have never come across, I would just dose copper, or get any snail eating fish, it'll sort them out. But, for now, just enjoy the oddity in your tank :p
    Kind regards
