Hi, i am new on this forum.
My catfish is sick. White patches started between the head and dorsal fin and spread around the dorsal fin in 24 hours. Almost like blisters at first. I added salt and anti fungal meds. But it is not looking good. What could this be?

By the look of it and what you've described, Most likely columnaris infection, thats bacterial.

I agree, the saddle back presentation of columnaris. It’s a very nasty one also that kills fast. Dose the tank with Seachem Kanaplex asap

Unfortunately he passed away on Sunday. Colomnaris is no joke! I have been dosing the tank with anti-fingus. I hope it will be sorted now.

    I’m sorry to hear :(
Yes hope it is sorted now and Merry Christmas to you too!

PS columnaris is bacterial, not fungal

I have had this multiple times early in the hobby and 99% of the time it was catfish. I've had it once with Tetra's as well. Horrible disease which spreads fast and kills quick. Never had any luck healing a fish with Saddle back.

    Sorry for the loss.

Columnaris bacteria are opportunistic bacteria that always linger in a tank.

When fish are weakened or stressed it can / will occure. One of the strains occures as saddleback other ad "mouthfungus" etc....

First action to be taken is to make the environment to be stress free (why I asked about tanksize), clean water and proper food.

Precaution is best to keep this bacteria away from your fish.
