What irritates you the most off this hobby?

    I'll start things of.

The thing that irritates me the most about this hobby is ...

When a tank is 100 %, water is clean, ph is fair, doing regular water changes, siphoning gravel with every water change. All is well for months and then just wham bam fishees die. And can not see what the reason is for this because all looks healthy.

    :(

Water changes are the biggest shlep for, me also when I need to give out money for medication for sick fish when the budget is tight.

Expensive equipment, water changes and exactly the same as the OP. Oh and plants not remaining where I left them then finding them floating around in the morning!

What irritates me about the hobby is people at the Pet shops don't know what they are talking about (Sometimes it is nice because you can get bargains) and or sell stuff to people that they cant really keep or should not keep. For example selling a cute little red tail cat to a young girl with with a 2 foot guppy tank. It is really bad!

When two fish that have been living together fine suddenly develop an issue with each other and destroy half the tank whilst trying to moer each other.

The lack of decent stores really irks me. Some shops have Eheims sitting on their shelves for what looks like 5 years already!

And yes I agree, very bad advice from many LFS's, it's appalling.

Lack of things at local LPS,they keep some interesting fish from time to time but most of the time it's the usual sort that catch inexperienced people's eyes.

Only aquatic plants they keep are amazon swords and anubias from time to time, the rest are none aquatic.

Unfortunately a petshop isn't the best business model.

Algae, ignorant shop assistants that would rather look at their cellphones, very poor selection of available fish.

Poor selection of fish and plants and even worse is that there is no decent equipment available when you need it

When people start "theories" that become rules without any scientific basis.
Quite prevalent in the Discus world. for eg you will get slated by many Discus keepers for not keeping fish in bare bottom tanks. Yet it is perfectly possible to hoover gravel.

Oh I wish that the LFS could just go overseas to see how they do it there.... even if they learn 10%, that will make such a huge difference.
