what external canister are you running on your 2ft (60L) tanks and what flow rate?

hi guys

i have a tetra internal filter in my tank at the moment and im moving house in 3 weeks.

thought i would use the opportunity to maybe get an external canister when i move my tank

the tank size is 2ft and volume is approximately 60L...currently the internal filter is rated at 300L/ph


i want to take out the internal filter and get more space for scaping. What external canister brand and model are you using and would you say are best for this size tank.

i think im looking for 400-500L/ph to account for slowing flow rate? is this correct? will this affect water movement and flow too much?

if you can help me with this info - it will make my research and googling much easier

Hi, im using an atman ef1 on my 2ft. Its 600lph although its about 50cm below the tank so maybe its working at 400 or so. Guessing sizes here but think about 20cm x 20cm at the base and maybe 30cm high. Working great, silent! Cost was R700. I'm thinking of building a diy canister as want to move the atman to a 3ft tank. I'll start a new thread in 2 weeks about the diy canister.

 

I've seen some:
Boyu Canister Filter EF- 10 for something like R700.
I am not sure you want to go more than 300l/ph considering that I am using an eheim 300 compact's giving me 300l/ph on my 2ft HMF setups and that is loads of current.
Dare I say - maybe a HOB rather?

@dougbb - good point head reduces the potential flow rate ..

is a tetra ex700 overkill for a 60L tank? - ive been offered one, haven't inquired the price yet...also dont know the size and noise of the actual canister

assuming the "700" is the litres per hour value...

any more options greatly received.

Yes the 700 in the TetraTec is the litres per hour and is way too much for a 2ft tank. They are very good filters, though.
