I was looking @ costs of our hobby & things are really expensive plus we travel far & wide to get the right stuff. The LFS tries to sell you things that you don't need which is over priced. A lot of the time those things are not necessary & most of the time you get an assistant that knows nothing about what you looking for. I don’t want to anger any of the sponsors but I was thinking of an online Freshwatershop. I was looking @ pumps, ballasts, light fittings, filter media ect(excluding LS). I was also looking at doing it after hours till 9:00pm for those who really want to get there tanks on the running. Cause most of us work till late @ night setting up our tanks. What happens when a light doesn’t work, ballast burns out or you have pump failure. Would you guys be interested in something like this? The sareefkeeping site has an online shop that caters for reefkeeping community. It’s just an idea!

Kathie it is a great idea and I agree on the after hours, but dont know if it would be possible to integrate something like this into TASA.

At one stage I thought it would be cool if there was a page containing all avaliable stock, equipment ect of all sponsors and their contact details...cause its kinda difficult to keep track with the threads. Will have to see what others say and whether it is possible without breaking any forum policies.

That would be awesome to be able to just come onto the site and order the stuff you need and then just wait for it to arive.
only thing is what makes it difrent from the sponsers? as far as I know they can do the same for us?
but I am in favour of an online shop were you can see the catolog and see what you are buying at a desent price as well,I am tried of been ripped off by the LFS

Let see what happens. Cause many of our freshwater guys look for bargains & end up spending R150+ on fuel just to get what they want. Sometime the cheaper products work better than the rolls royce.

I almost clapped an assistant at LFS. Cause when I asked if they had larva rock, he was "What". The guy knew nothing. He didn't even know what filter media is.

Educate him.He might find it interesting instead of just another job and maybe join us here on TASA in a month or two.

Kathie, I'm in, when do you start.
time is of the essence. You could also rope a few of the lfs's in, something like interflora.... where they stock for you and deliver whatever is ordered locally at a set price.

    Good plan though.

(not to sound pedantic, but wth is larva rock? Rocks with larvae in it? I ask, cause this isnt the first time ive seen people spell it that way. . or is it lava rock. As in rock formed due to lava flow, molten rock enriched in minerals? Is there actually such a thing as larva rock?)

You say lava rock & I say larva rock but it the same thing. Lava rock is has tons of pores for bacteria to grow & it is molten rock that is light weight.

Thanks for your support. Lets get more people in. Cause I don't want to kicked in the face. But 2010 is going to here soon & I'm guessing that we will be able to get more stuff. Lets hope it works.

LFS staff don't know much so its up to us to know what we want. I just laugh at them. About 2 weeks back I bought 3 green decons and the shop assistant (shop @$$) sold them to me as texas cichlids. Didn't make a differance as they were priced the same. Fish prices heve risen in the past 6 months.

when i ask for anubius the other day the guy told me they didnt stock that kind of fish
i supose alot more people know fish more than plants but that is just silly
Henk maybe you could get in touch with one of the sponsors and talk to them

    about our idea

MC1, where on earth did u see Discus for 150? Cheapest I've seen is 170, and they looked awfull! Only place with decent ones was 190 and they werer small small! Sorry to get off thread there! I think its a nice idea, but needs lots of careful thought over the implementation? If all else fails, u could always become a sponsor and offer that particular service as part of that? So when open at 930 at night, how exactly would someone get a heater from u? How would it be different from the current sponsors? That's my thoughts! Cheers! Big G!
