What CAN'T you grow?

Following a discussion with a felllow planted tank keeper, I thought it would be fun to see what you CAN'T grow!

Before we go any further, I'd like to make it clear that I'm not asking for folk to start suggesting solutions... this thread is just for fun, and directed more at the more experienced members who have successfully maintained several plant species, but find one species/genus inexplicably just fails.

I'll start - though I have a magnificent melon sword, I simply cannot get common old Echinodorus bleheri to survive! :weird:

 

i cant get java fern,blyxa japonica and staurogyne to grow.

 

Ashamed to say I fail at Vallis

 

my bacopa monnieri grew wonderfully for a while, then I got pressurized co2, and now it melts

and related to that - my blyxa japonica used to melt, but then I got pressurized co2, and now it grows wonderfully:cheesy:

 

Pogostemon! Any thing that needs an acidic substrate

 

My Kryptonite at the moment is ALL crypts As well as Vallis, HC, Glosso. Also worthy to mention that some of my plants grow well in some tanks and in others they struggle.

 

Pogestomon doesn't need an acidic substrate. They are fert hungry. Especially the stellatus.

With the correct combination of ferts, Co2 and light, you should be able to grow just about anything. The only plants that really need acidic substrates are Tonina species.

 

Struggle with bellem and erio also.

I kill swords before they can even find a foothold in my tanks. Struggling with the money tree as well, seads rot away before anything germenates. I need them to start growing so I can replace all the plants I kill

 

Ha HA HA! Pierre, let us know when you figure out that damned moneytree - I'm sure we'd all like to figure out germination of those seeds!

 

I do a pretty good job of killing any type of bacopa. I wish I could grow plants as well as I grow algae!

 

Well lets hope I will be able to grow plants for my Tiger barb tank soon. Might get my first plants on the weekend. YEAH!!!:bigsmile:

 

:dontknow: Echinodorus amazonicus leaves stay tiny plant never thrives

 

Java fern and Echinodorus 'Rose' :embarrestthey are not dead only in a comatose state)

My Nesaea pedicellata looks like it needs braces.

 

Cardamine lyrata, its not growing but also not melting away.

 

I cant seem to get Valis to grow or Ambulias, both these plants in my tanks just stay alive and dont grow at all
