Hey. OK my new tank is cycled and ready to go. But now I've changed my mind about the community tank. I want to know what fish you guys would like. Something that's not impossible to breed but also not all that available. Would love to get some ideas from you. After all of this I can do some research . Something I can purchase for about +- 500 - 1000 rand per fish.
    And not to big. Tank is 1m x 0.5m x 0.5m. plus a grow out tank .

Why don't you go for Jag Cichlids, I have not seen any of them around for a while....
I am not sure how big they get but as far as I recall about 20cm+/- some one will correct me if I am wrong.

Apistogramma Elisabethea Super Red Belly! Set you back about R700+ for a Male and Female!! I'd love to breed a pair, but just can't afford the initial outlay!!

    Cheers

Would really like some of these but they might break the budget. Betta Albimarginata

    Aren't you worried about hybridization?

Anyway, Franna, I'd say go for an African cichlid - maybe one of the Kribs (Pelvicachromis species). You normally get P. pulcher, but I'm sure if you ask Dolphin nicely he can get you one of the others. :p

not much that i can do if they do cross. they came in mixxed from the wholesaler.... i normally just go down the list, say ummm.... 30 of those and take them. in my size tank we buy smaller fish in 30/40 or 50 :D

Dario Dario are nice little fish, but they are notoriously difficult to acclimatise!!

I know of several keepers and breeders who bought 30 or so, and lost upto 28 of them overnight!!

If you could them to breed in our waters, then they would be a much more 'stable' fish to buy!!

I was also condsidering these and Badis Sp. Buxar!

Another fish to try if you like tetras is the Peruvian Emporer Tetra!! They cost around R80 a fish, but once you get em regularly breeding, you can lower the price for us!! Lol!!

    Heres a pic.....
