I'm using a commen anti-chlorine product which is a blue solution that look's like bromothymol blue, but they have these crystal like particles that when it lands in the aquarium dissolves and discolors the gravel and tank decor it comes in contact with to a dark blue, so needless to say I'm a bit skeptical about it.

So what should I be using, and what are you guys using?
I'm pretty sure my tap water only contains chlorine. Unfortunately I don't have the space to let the water just stand in buckets.
And what chemical does the commen anti-chlorine solutions consist of?

safe is the cocentrated powder form of prime, a little goes a long long way, which means it is easy on the pocket.

Thanx Azure, according to wikipedia it's a clear crystal like substance. Wonder why mine is blue.
Can a OD of it cause problems for my fish?

I wouldn't advice OD'ing them, but I once went to the last couple of drops for an emergency setup, a few crystals fell in and the whole tank discoloured blue... Potch water is more harmful than anything else, so I did not do large water changes. Water stayed blue for a month or so until small water changes helped, and my Angels did not seem to mind...

Shucks! Prime is already concentrated 1ml per 40liters..... how concentrated must Safe be!!!

At my lfs Prime costs R45/100ml which equats to 4000liters so 1.125cents per liter..... thats not so bad.....

Cheap Chinese anti chlor products are usually soidium thiosulfate based.... they add small amounts of methylene blue to this in order to emulate the blue of the well known brand name: Tetra Aquasafe...

The small amount of Meth Blue does not do much in your tank(Re: Filterbacteria) - but makes you think you bought a "Sharp: product...

I used that cheap blue stuff when I ran out and all my sponges in my filter are blue now and the silicon on the tank went blue which looks really stupid, I also had this crummy white gravel in what is now my quarantine tank and that turned a variety of green and blue in color so looks really ugly. I doubt the quality of that stuff somehow.
Tetra Aquasafe is what I'm using now, also use the goldfish one in my goldfish tank, it's orange and it seems to have enhanced my goldfishes orange since I've been using it

@fishkeeper it depends on your tap water. Here in Potchefstroom you need to add RO water to soften your water down to 11KH, but for the rest of it, Tetra Aquasafe, Seachem Safe/Prime or even the lesser brands generally treat for Chlorine and Chloramine, then you hope your copper content isn't that high

I recently spoke to a student at pukke and he also mentioned the high copper content of the water they had tested.

Is it because of mining, or just pollution?
