What a weekend to be in this hobby :)

Right all bear with me as a share an amazing weekend with y'all (guessing other wet fanatics could appreciate this)

it all started on Friday when @Herve gave me a call wanting to know if I was interested in some discus. Which, naturally, I was and he asked me to make him an offer. After a quick chat to the minister of finances I made him an offer and he accepted. Thus making me the proud owner of 7 beauts. This obviously prompted some furious consultation with 1 of our resident experts and my very good buddy @Marco. Lucky for me I had a spare 4ft tank and a nice multi tier stand which allowed me to change my study into a fish room and I was set. Herwe was kind enough to deliver the discus to me the next morning and they have been doing brilliantly well since.

As far as discus ID goes its been narrowed down to
1 Alenquer (ex Prof Dirk's I believe)
2 White faced red melon
1 Turquoise
1 Blue Diamond (amazing looking)
1 Virgin red
1 not too sure yet (meaning Marco did say but I forgot - its been a crazy weekend)


Adding further fuel to a crazy weekend tonight I have witnessed my hillstream loaches spawn! The pic attached isn't very good but I'll set the scene.
In the foreground is my pair of Bolivian Rams guardian a clutch of wrigglers, behind that is a kebab stick that had some veggies on which I cant remove right now (Bolivians guard the area fiercely) and behind that, under the the shadow of a piece of mopani there are 2 hillstream loaches doing some serious spawning activity. Normally they both look almost exactly alike but the male has lost nearly all his coloration except for a mean looking dark stripe running from tip to tail along his back. He keeps lifting her tail and moving underneath it quickly. Darts around the front of her then repeats the tail lifting. Very cool to watch. I really doubt I will see fry from this as it is a community tank but it is amazing to watch the behavior.

I have to say that its not just the fish that keep me hooked but also the incredible people who I have met that have made this experience special to me. Thanks to everyone who has made such a positive impact on my life.

Holy cow! You have had a serious weekend of it man! It's brilliant. Those are some lekker discus you have inherited, and the spawning of the hillstreams is flippen amazing! Seriously dude, great stuff!

Its not an unknown occurance but I never thought I would see it in my tank. Amazing behaviour to watch, I feel so lucky to have seen it.
