Basicly i am trying to calculate meds and am wondering. do i take the mesurements from above the substrate , silica sand, or do i take it from the base of the tank? I would think that the silica sand would take up alot of the volume of the water. not to mention the stones and pot plants...

    You'd do the following....

    L (cm) x B(cm) x H(cm)
(Use your height measurement from the bottom of the substrate to the level of the water)

    Divide by 1000
Subtract 10% of your answer for water displacement due to substrate, plants etc.

I've never had a problem doing it this way :)

Don't forget that if you have sensitive fish such as loaches in the tank that you should use half dose usually.

If I dose Anti Stress meds according to this calculation, I would land up with "Jamaican" fish...
