Water testing Strips

Hi!

Can anyone tell me how good the water testing strips are? I tested my one tank & it said that the water parameters are good but i'm not so sure.

 

The strips aren't very accurate,get the tubes.

I'm eying the Sera master test kit.

 

IMO the strips are as accurate as they need to be for our purposes, as long as the expiry date has not passed. They are meant to be an indication of the water parameters. I have used both the strips and the drop tests at the same time and the results are the same, within the very wide parameters given by the tests. I like the strips because they are very quick and convenient. If they indicate a problem, I would double check using the drop tests. If in doubt, do a water change

 

I must agree with @Jenn as I use the strips for testing. I normally test my water only when I think there is a problem, which is not often, but like it that it gives a quick indication if something might be wrong. Then you can do the drop test or have your lfs test it for you. In general I believe that if your maintenance on your tank is done regularly you will not need this as you will keep your tank in the "save" figures for your fish

 

Thanks everyone I'll purchase a Sera test kit again as i have used up all the chemicals
for testing & buy some more strips once mine are finished got about 5 to go.

The only thing that worried me on the strip test is that it tells me i need to add dechlor but i make sure i put enough
in & let my water stand before i put it in the tank. Could the dechlor ive been buying from my fish
breeder inferior quality? & where could i get more from maybe a different supplier in bulk that doesnt cost
the earth? I do frequent water changes & it gets pricey?

 

I will not worry about the clorine. Get the same thing with mine.

 

To make these last longer, you can cut them in half length-ways. The pet shops do that.

 

For dechlor look for Seachem Prime or Safe. Safe is a more concentrated dry version of Prime.
