Are you talking about a geyser heater?

hmm, it looks like an element that curves all around and can clip to the side of a bucket

Take a pic,if it's made of metal and has a spring like shape then it's a general heat element.

(we used to take a piece of wire at school, wrap it around a finger to form a spring shape and then connect both ends to the + and - of a battery and it would heat up.We never really found a use for it)

That's definitely a heating element,it should heat the water fine.

Just make sure the piece of metal doesn't touch anything and the loops stay submerged. Also don't leave it unattended since it doesn't look like it has anything to regulate the heat.

I wouldn't exactly call it save, you can prob heat up a 1000L tank with this thing in 10-20min.

The problem is that it isn't like an aquarium heater,an aquarium heater turns on and off at regular intervals. If it didn't then the water around the heater would be boiling hot and it wouldn't heat evenly.

The problem with a heat element is that it boils the water, you're better off heating a large container with that thing and then taking part of the water for a water change.

If you can get a large container to heat then i suggest you drag the element from left to right so it heats evenly.

You can always try crazy plastics for containers (they are close to PetCity Zam)

    How big is your container?
