Just like Slojo's water supply - us around the corner of the Magaliesberg get our water from the same supply, the Roodeplaat dam... Major issues with this 'bout 6 weeks ago... Want to extend this warning to people in Montana,Sinoville and Annlin too...

Add double to triple doses of anti-chlor - not the el'cheapo - a good one that also locks up chloramine... READ the label!!!

After the massive fish losses in the North I've been keeping my water in a 20L container for a week and double-dosing on Sera Aquatan. No issues so far :)

Oh, and I took advantage of the rain this weekend and topped up my tank with some natural clean water

Maybe someone else can also advise. From what I know no dechlorinators actually bind chloramine, they just take the chlorine off, leaving an amine group behind, this then adds to your nitrogen cycle, so can cause problems if in a new tank.

Chloramine also doesn't really decrease when water is left to stand, its fairly stable, so needs the dechlorinator to 'remove' it.

    Aside:
Wish i had been smarter and captured some rain water, im sure after all the rains we have been having the air is pretty clean...had some tanks left outside, in 3days a 3ft tank was filled! now its full of mosquitoe larvae, nice snacks!

Filter the water through activated carbon. Safest way to get rid off any and all nasty's

Seachem safe is the best, but not expensive if you consider how many liters you can treat.

Chloramine is basically a mixture of chlorine and ammonia and is added to the water of many cities as a substitute for free chlorine. (Basically acts as an disinfectant killing bacteria in the water and removing any bad smells.) Best thing to use for something like Chloramine is "Catalytic" carbon which is specifically processed grade of filter carbon that is designed especially for, among other things chloramine removal.

They both fall under Pretoria East.
