Hi guys. This will be my thread for my wild-type bettas and their tanks. At the moment I've got 2 small tanks going, 70l (2ft high) and 50l (1.5ftx1ft). I got into keeping these guys about 3 weeks ago, stumbled across them at a LPS and couldnt resist (especially since there were some spare tanks laying about) I originally picked up 5 fish, but have since added another 4. At this stage I've split them up to manage the "minor" aggression I've seen after adding the last 4. Watching, learning and trying to ID some of these guys. But the plan is to try get something in these darn tanks to breed at some point. These pics are taken 20min or so after introducing the additional 4 fish into their new home, after dripping them ofcourse.
Thanks very much @Broder! Was lucky I had the camera locked and loaded, or I would've missed the action. Greetings to a fellow Slummies man
Thank you very very much @MariaS! Sorry for posting so many photos, still waiting for a mod to give me a warning or something My 2 hobbies.. so glad I can blend the 2 together
I've got a few supposed Betta imbellis females. I recently had a successful imbellis x crowntail spawn. Massive spawn. I also have an imbellis x dragon scale spawn. I picked up 8, but lost the males within a few days due to some infection I think they had when they arrived. Great pics, and good luck spawning them. I'd definitely pick up a male or 2 if you manage to breed them.
Will do @howard, nice to have an outlet for the obsession! Unfortunately no bubbling yet.. Although the imbellis would be the only ones who do the bubble nest. The rest of the unknowns, I'm thinking they're mouth-brooding species (B. edithae, B. pugnax).. The 2 males above are now sharing a tank on their eis... Much more aggro than the others, so had to separate them. Strangely they are now WAY more relaxed. Will be adding the female into their tank this weekend to see what's what.. Pics to follow
Thanks Sean J! Would love to see some pics of yours, for comparison. Do you agree these are imbellis?
Yip, lots of similarities, especially amongst the various species in each of the 13 groups. Apparently there are even imbellis/splendens crosses on the market? Keen to find out who has been bringing these wild-types into SA lately.
