    Thanks for the comments

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Gaawie: I am not a plant guru at all, but I think it is Echinodorus palaefolius. (Any of the plant gurus, feel free to correct me)

Sailing Derrick: I have ordered the following Apistos from Dolphin, A.macmasteri, A.hongsloi and A.borellii.

Not all of the Apistos will be going into the same tank. I will post some more pics of the other tanks as soon as I have taken some.

The filter has been running with activated carbon and purigen for a few weeks now, but both have been removed and I have added some peat. Hopefully the peat will help create the ideal water conditions that the Apistos enjoy. I will measure the water parameters this weekend to see how much influence the peat has on it.

I still have to add some floating plant (guppy grass), and provide some more cover with some pieces of wood that are soaking in the pond at the moment.

What is in the tank at the moment

    Corys.jpg
I forgot to mention that the current inhabitants of the tanks are 15 Corydoras hastatus. Hopefully these little guys will get along really well with the Apistos.

Found this pic of one of the other tank that is not to bad. Still have to add some more plants and wood, this tank is half the size of the other one.

    Are they compatible?

I have three small Whiptail Cats that I want to move into the larger Apisto tank. Will they be compatible with the Apistos, or should I rather avoid mixing these fish.

Very nice setups there. Have no idea what plant that is, but it looks great, so does the driftwood.

Nice looking tank there. A quick word of advice... Take the Peat out of your filter now. I just leave it in for a week or so and then remove it once the tannins are in the water. Once the peat starts to rot, it will release all that junk back into the tank and it rots through the netting and you get particulate all over the tank.

    Peat

Slagter: The peat that I am using is the Sera Granular type. I have placed it in the sump inside a stocking. I can understand that the effect of the peat will eventually wear out, and the peat will have to be replaced. Do you run your filters with peat after you have done a water change, and the remove it again, or do you just add peat to the tanks?
Another question that you might be able to answer. Do you keep other fish with your Apistos, and if so, what are they.

They have arrived  – now all I still have to do is collect them. Here is some more pics of another tank waiting for the new inhabitants that will be moving in very soon.

Hey Kuhli... Sorry about the delayed response, it's been quite crazy recently.

Personally, I don't like the Sera Peat. It's expensive and I'm not willing to pay that price. I now use Ketapang Leaves for this purpose. You pop a leaf in the tank and wait for the water to be stained, then remove them. You can leave them in if you want to breed the fish. The babies will eat the small bacteria and goggos on the leaf. Just make sure you remove them before they rot.

I add peat in a stocking in the filters/sumps. But not for every water change. I add some in about once a month for a few days and then remove it.

There is only 1 tank in my house that has apistos with other fish. I have 5 A. trifasciata with Bolivian Rams, Keyhole Cichlids, Rummynoses, Ottos, Cory's and Galaxy Rasboras. They are all happy together.
