Just putting feelers out - is there anyone that would be interested in buying cultures of vinegar eels? I have a culture that I split last night into 2 so I should hopefully have available in about 6 weeks.

I will post them to you. Ordinary mail will work - they survive months in fresh water

Hadn't really thought about it. I will supply only the vinegar eels in water so R 50? You will need to cover postage though and also you will need to make/source your own vinegar.

I'd be interested. Quick question on temperatures though - would they travel well now that winter is approaching?

I'd be one of the postal people.

I think they will be okay. They are currently in my garage in glass bottles of apple vinegar. If you prefer to wait I will always have cultures available once I get my 2 up and running.

Its apple cidar vinegar but you cant put the ones with preservatives in otherwise they die. Dischem sells vinegar with the "mother still in". I use this, add apples and sugar and water and allow it to ferment for about 3 weeks. Then I remove the apples and let it continue for another 4 to 6 weeks before I mix RO water with the vinegar in a ratio of 1:1.

You dont need a courier - mine were in the post for about 4 months and still survived. A week or 2 in postage wont make a difference.

They stay alive in freshwater so fry can pick them off as and when they want to. They are also very small so fry can easily eat them almost immediately after going free swimming

    update time,

I have 6 cultures going currently and using 2 to feed fry. Once the other 4 have established themselves I will be offering starter cultures for sale. I am also busy experimenting with different vinegar manufacturers to see what works well. It looks like a 50:50 ratio of Dischem apple cider vinegar : RO water is successful. I tried other vinegar but if it has preservatives in it kills the vinegar eels.
