This is my puffer specie tank.
I added them after cycling properly and 2 weeks later this it started with staghorn algae on the plants and now there is strange brown algae on the glass with patches of green the left side of the tank gets direct sunlight but appears to hav no algae the right side of the tank has all the algae but is next to the main community tank is there possible algae being caused by the main tanks light.
Im really confused as to what the problem is as i had another tank in the same spot for a year with no issues. all my other tanks have abs no algae except this one. i do 50% weekly waterchanges with the gravel vacs any ideas and solutions please.

The brown "algea" are diatoms - due to high levels of silicates in especialy new aquariums - just get hold of some of that Crystal Algae go that I told you about...

I know this is an way old topic, but I have the exact same problem, only differance is, my tank is not new... I just did a 90% water change due to me starting a malawian tank.

Now, will I be able to walk in to, let's say, Pet Stop and shout Crystal Algea in a rather panicky voice and they will understand what I mean?

And another thing, it seem like string algea is also starting...

@azurekoi, please pm me as well, I'm having a small bloom in my one 2ft but it is next to a window. The mollies are not interested in doing the house keeping, so I suppose that I'm gonna have to do it for them...:blink1:
