Neons in general have a habit of vanishing...i had quite a few at one stage (15) and for a little while they also vanished (over a period of three weeks) the population is now stable on 5 for the last 12 months or so...to this day I also dont know where they went...but I do suspect the other neons of eating them...in my mind i see them as little pirahnahs... :)

i had a similar experience where had a shoal of 17 neons that gradually declined to about 6. I must say they are a bit aggressive towards each other when establishing a pecking order.

Ok neons are the little blue and red ones. I don't have any of those. I have 2 rummy nose tetras 4 black tetras 9 glow lites and 4 little blue/green ones i don't know which kind they are. I will get my spouse to help me upload pictures. [ i am no good on the pc ]

Yea it is funny. I must say that i have a real good laugh at some of the things these guys come up with. At least i have all my baby mistery snails and they are soooo cute. There's about 300 of them, i had to set up a extra tank. Hopefully i get as much for them as i did for the last lot i sold [ R5 each ]

Tell me about it. I have probably 300+ Malaisian trumpet snails in my tank.... was considering starting a DIY snail trap, until they all got wiped out with some medication I put in!

    Heehee.... Vis,
When you decide that you have a "snail problem" then by that stage it is too late! And I think WANTING snails from anyone is also considered a "snail problem!"

problem 1: the big snails keep dying.
problem 2: dead snails do not make babies
problem 3: my puffers wil go hungry

Sorry Bauer, I know this thread is not about my snail "problem"

Anyway also thought of setting up a Tetra only tank. Some of them can be really cool.

I think the blue/green ones may be Hemigrammus Hyanuary(January tetra)

I'd be suprised if they were Hemigrammus Hyanuary! They are not often come across!

More likely to be Cochus or perhaps green neon?? A pic would help??

As for your 'dissapearences', I would still go with the other tetras eating them! They can devour a fish rather quickly when they want to! I have had several fish dissapear rapidly, and only sometimes have I discovered any left over skelleton!

You mention black tetras? Are these Black Skirt/Widows or Black Neons??

I hope you find your cause!

    Cheers
    Big G!

i lost 4 tetras in 2 weeks. found that they swim into those little plastic cups the plants come in. into the bottom, then they cant get out. and you cant see them there. only reason i found them there is because there was nowhere else to look.

An indication of a dead fish that you cant find sometimes would be an oily slick on the surface of the water.

Just one question, which of the tetras is it that is dissapearing?? Is it one particular type or randomly one of one type and one of another??

    Cheers

Big G the black ones are black neons, three blue/green ones and three glow lites have dissapeared randomly.
No problem Vis if you travel to Secunda feel free to drop by for some puffer food. My one tank has a snail problem and you can have them all.
