:amazed:Since i started my tetra tank every now and then i am missing a fish. :mad:When the first two vanished i thought that i had vacumed them by accident, i searched but could not find them. :idea:Since then i am very careful and i vacum into a bucket though a net. Altogether i have lost six fish. I noticed the last one when i was moving them to a new tank yesterday. They haven't died because i would find the dead fish. Any ideas as to what is happening.

Internal power filters can sometimes suck up smallish fish and shred them into the tank. It sounds gross, but I had that problem once.

Agree with Zoom or look for a slightly overweight fish :)

There are only tetras in the tank, with a few mistery snails. The tank is covered [ there is no escape route ]. I don't have a power filter, just a small corner filter.

Hmmm the mystery of the vanishing fish... this calls for Sherlock Holmes ^_^
I take it you've looked EVERYWHERE in your tank? Behind plants, under the filter. inbetween some gravel maybe?

Only thing I can think of is that maybe the fish died and the others ate it before you noticed?

I have looked everywhere. I'm sure if the fish died i would have seen it before it was completly eaten. I don't work and so i spend alot of time watching my fish every day. Believe me i have checked everything and i can't come up with an answer. Maybe there is a new breed of fish eating plastic plants. LOL

it is very likely the snails that are munching the fish if they are dying, I have personally see a apple snail try and eat a almost full grow bandit corry. It is scary what a snail can do with that little mouth...keep an eye on them it might all be happening during the night while you are sleeping.

I do have a syno but he's in the other tank [ a bit far for even his reach LOL ]. If it had been just one fish i would have thought that maybe it died and i didn't notice. But over the last few months i've lost six fish. It can't be the snails as i have just added them to the tetra tank. I had to remove them from the tank that they were in 'cos in the last week +/- 300 baby snails have hatched out and they say that you shouldn't keep the adults with the babys as the little ones crawl into their shells and irritate them

    Or "The Great Escape"!!

Do you have a hang on filter? If so check in the filter compartment. I once had a HOB filter with no covering on the pipe in the water and the curious neons used to get sucked up the pipe when checking what the pipe was all about!

Likely the snails took care of the dead bodies...they kinda good at that. I've seen tiny ramshorns eat a dead cardinal until nothing was left within a matter of hours

The snails are a new addition. I didn't have any snails at all in that tank. [ not even the crappy little ones ]

Well fish dont usually just vanish so it has to either be one of these options

    1) Fish died and were eaten by the other inhabitants of the tank (either the fish or your snails)

    2) Fish jumped out of the tank and your cat scooped them up before you saw them

    3) Your fish have got trapped in your corner filter (has happened to me once)

    4) Your fish found a parallel dimension vortex in your tank

I've had a smililar situation happen when I had a smallish tank a couple years back and it ended up that the other tank mates (who were tetras btw) were chomping the bodies during the night. All that was left was the very hard to see fish bones.

Feeling really dof now sorry Linxie by cats i thought you ment catfish, hence the comment about the syno. No i don't have a feline. Thanks for the imput you guys, my only conclusion can be that they died during the night and got eaten by their tank mates. Thanks
