    Hi all,

Could someone please advise on whether this is Vallisneria, or whether I made the mistake of buying Sagittaria? Bought it for my Dimidiochromis Compressiceps as I believe it’s their preferred “lurking territoryâ€. Vallisneria should be good in a malawi tank right (pH just below 8 and moderately hard to hard water)? And if it’s Sagittaria?

    Thanks!

The leaves look very much like Vallis, but I'm puzzled by those small leaves around the edges of the plant. Vallis propagates by sending out runners, not by sending up new leaves next to the plant like yours seems to be doing.

And yes, Vallis does prefer hard water.

Agree, looks like Vallis to me as well. Hopefully the Malawi's won't try to eat it.

    Thanks all!

These do have runners, i've just placed a few quite close together to provide ample cover for the fish. these are basically 3 seperate different sized plants with 3 leafy sections connected by runners planted parallel to each other.

Yeah they're digging their new tank and the vallis. This is my first proper Malawi setup, so will post pics etc. on the forum within the next few days. Going to keep it a compressiceps only tank as the compressiceps if prob my favourite "standard" fish (usually go for oddballs and catfish)
