UV sterilizer in sump or quarantine tank

Hi guys,

Im sick of ick, I always get it by it when I add new fish so I've decided to set up a quarantine tank for future fish, will a UV steriliser kill ick? because I want to get one for my tank that currently has ick, can I put it in the sump, the sump has glass slides over, will this affect UV penetration? the sterilizer Im looking at is 5w, is that enough for a 393 litre tank? thanks guys.

 

The older forum members can comment more accurately on this but correct me if I am wrong but doesn't a UV sterilizer kill all micro organisms that pass it? It will not kill ich though because it is a parasite and not a micro organism.

 

I know that some marine aquariums use a UV sterilizer to treat marine white spot, but I think that a UV sterilizer will control and eradicate the white spot. Could you please tell us more specifically how you plan to setup the UV light?
