Using a Skimmer on a Freshwater Setup

Hi Guys

I would like to know if any of you running a skimmer on our Freshwater tanks, and advise how effective is it?

was always told due to the lack of salt and viscosity in freshwater it wasnt very effective, not enough bubbles to pull dirt out - would also like to know if anyone's tried it yet, sure theres more seasoned pros that can enlighten

 

Thanks bud , as I am curious as I have a Hang-On Bubble Magnus skimmer from my marine tank and wanted to use it on my Malawi tank to help with the filtration..

 

It cant do harm so maybe a nice time to test it for all of us

Looks like I need to come collect it. Only thing you will be doing is airatimg the water alot more same as a venturi.

 

Read up a while ago. It can be done but usually requires tall (2-3m) skimmer chambers and extremely fine bubbles. More applicable for commercial aquaculture than home aquaria. It's easy to do large water changes with the right infrastructure which does the job just fine

So I maybe I need to put it up for sale... sorry it's not a Bubble Magnus its one of those Reef Octi 1000c HOB skimmers hangs on your tank. Worked like a boss in my previous marine setup...
