Hi Guys

I just wanted to drop a quick note: I've noticed that a couple people are putting their email addresses in public posts on this forum so thought I'd quickly mention my experience of the consequences of this to save you any future hassles

I placed an advert on another South African forum which contained my email address. I stupidly put my work address but at the time thought nothing of it. Then other members of the forum started complaining about spam emails to their private email address. After the moderators trawled the forum site they found that those who had recieved these spam emails were the ones that had posted their emails on the public domain.

Apparently spammers/hackers have a program that can search for these email address which can then be spammed with all sorts of rubbish.

I ended up having to rename my email address as the spam was just to much for our work server to handle.

So ya I thought I would just let you guys know before the same happens to you.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us Kaizer. A similar thing happened to me on a photography forum.

SoandSo hasn't introduced themselved in the new members section yet... they just came on offering some ridiculously priced fish, and asking where to buy some unknown plant.

You would be scared of what people can do on the net.
