@hviviers75 - Nice one. Where are you off to for the holiday? Remember that all excursions are actually scouting trips for more decorations etc

@hviviers75 - Not just their LFS's. Their rocks, wood and any other interesting items you may see along the drive/walks/trips out and about. I think we all do this naturally anyway. I drive past an uprooted tree stump every evening on the way home from work and think to myself - If I had a 400l tank that would be amazing.

Now you're getting the idea . I really do look at everything and think, I wonder if I can use that in my tank and where?

Cool idea, I am just afraid of picking up a tree branch and then put it in my precious tank as bit scary. Rocks are fine cause you can just boil the crap out of them LOL!!!

Is the "driftwood" sold to us at LFS any better? Who knows. We trust them, boil/soak the wood and then stick it in our tanks. I'm the king of paranoia so I added aquarium salt to the bucket of soaking wood every now and then. Probably not such a good idea but my theory was that salt and high temp should kill any bacteria...Just remember that there are restrictions as to what you can "collect" as far as I know but maybe someone can confirm/deny this comment?

@ Marchawke, I am busy browsing photos of your 100 liter tank I noticed you also have one of those Seachem Ammonia Alerts gadgets when my light are on it is the lowest color of them all and when the light are of it is between the light yellow and light green color which method do you use reading this thing?

I have PM'd you but for the sake of others reading this thread - I read the Ammonia alert using the light from within the tank. It shines through. The PH is darker so this method doesn't work so I use a torch/cellphone to check it.

No probs. We've said this before but these are awesome quick visual indicators. I look at them every day when I'm feeding/ doing maintenance and also when I do water changes to make sure nothing odd happens.
