    @MariaS
    Any ideas?
    What are its requirements?
    Is it a very aggro species?

    @Reedfish.. I say its an Indo (Indonesian tiger) Datnioides microlepis
    Look at shape of the head, it's long and narrow the ST has a broader head
    The bars are thinner the ST has broad bars

    @Cesar....

    I'm going to agree with D. microlepis simply by bar count and width, and what I can count from the dorsal rays.

    They are peaceful and don't go out their way to bully anyone but will stand their ground if challenged

    Its actually strange that the most aggressive of fish go up to the Datnoids and when the Datnoid stands his ground (they don't attack) and lifts his spikes, the other fish back off and swim away...

    I have mine with rays, arowana, clown loaches and other loaches which some are pretty small, electric blue acaras, flagtail, geos

    Some of the other Datnoids are with SA cichlids and CA cichlids, rays arowana.. no problem

    They can bicker amongst themselves sometimes... a bit like the geos do, but not constantly, its usually a "get out my spot thing"
    While small they very shy and will hide a lot, as they grow they become quite outgoing and out most of the time
    They have quite a lot of personality but you need to give them time to settle and to grow

    Feeding.... If they been fed on live feeders.. boy you could have a long wait before they eat... depends on the individual fish... my big wide bar indo went without food 5 and a half months... every morning I expected to find him dead but he was swimming around no problem
    He started eating about 2 weeks ago and now is worse than a tiger, I have to feed him first before I feed anyone

    Once you get them eating.... they have no problem eating and eat almost anything, like any predator fish if not raised on pellets then you know the drill.. starve them a bit and see if you can

    My main concern would be them causing problems with the Rays

    So I go to the lfs this afternoon to pick up the Dat ..........
    But had been sold during the week.
    Was disappointed but I should have phoned to reserve it. Anyhow, I phone another lfs, the main one I get my oddballs from. Yes, the had 2 in stock, but they were a lot more exp. about 1/3 more
    But I had already made up my mind I wanted it. So as the say k*k en betaal. So off I went to pick it up
    Just released it into my tank.

    They had some other amazing fish there. But had to show a measure of control. :confused:

    Pity, but I'm glad you got your fish in the end. Same species, I presume? And are we going to get pics?

    Please do tell! What I would give to walk around with a camera in some of those UK stores...

    @SalmonAfrica
    From what I can tell, is the same species
    I will post photos from my desk top at work on monday

    They have an amazing range of rift cichlids, quite a few SA cichlids, L Plecs, and oddballs - about 5 species of Bircher, predatory Tetras, perches, knife fish, spiny eels. The list goes on.
