so my two bettas in the seperated tank have been jumping into each others sections, this morning i put the female back in her own section and she was still there when i got back from training this morning but there were eggs in the males section:amazed: and he's busy looking after them:bigsmile:. So apollo is a daddy, i dont know if any of the babies will survive and i dont know what i'll feed them if they do. could i crush up my betta food specifically for bettas? its from tetra and a good quality food. otherwise i have to rush out for daphnia and try get a culture going or microworms, where does one get microworms? oy vey wish me luck folks this is going to be a crash coarse in betta breeding by the looks of it.:p btw how long does it take from the eggs to hatch on average and are they suppose to be white?

    Wow... that's exciting news.

Send Solex69 a PM and get his advice... he will more than likely tell you to get a brine shrimp going

Thanks everyone, i just sent solex a pm bt it mite be awhile til he answers. Do u know were i can find brineshrimp zoom? Are they those sea monkey things u can buy for kids? My other alternative is to use comercial fry food, either liquad or powder form. No wrigglers yet and im not sure the eggs are fertile, they white.

so eggs are definately fertile! i got wrigglers lol. its so cool, though i dont think Apollo knows what to do with the fry he's still trying to keep eggs from falling out but he's slipping. i'll be fremoving hera to my community and am going to try keep dad with the fry as long as possible, i went and found some fry food today but will probably get some brineshrimp from animal kingdom when they get new stock on thurs. i also came home with another 2 tiny panda cories for breeding stock and 2 julii cories fingers crossed the julii are a male and female.

lol as soon as they big enough to see, i dont have the skill to get a decent pic of them now and unfortunately there is no lighting in the tank, im using a table lamp just so Apollo can see whats going on. i'll give it a go tomorrow when i get home from my test. i been periodically going to check on him and i can see a few babies, he's still battling to keep the nest together but he only has about a day left until they become free swimming. i gotta remember to turn the filter off aswell. he should be alright with them once they free swimming right? he's been a model father so far. n thanks firefly i cant wait to ee the colours that develope

    Hi Windfire.

Great news. I would remove the dad once they are free swimming. He might just decide to eat a few.
Bettas also produce that hormone so that the other fish do not grow that big so it would be better to remove him.
Defnately get some brineshrimp or micro worms.

so wrigglers are now becoming free swimming and dad is trying to cope like any first dad would with about 15 toddlers by frantically swimming up collecting a swimming fry and taking it back to the nest and then repeating the process and still trying to have a bite to eat of some flakes.he is most unhappy that his nice lil eggs have turned into these tiny hooligans lol. unfortunately alot of the eggs didnt hatch, i dont know why, i can see the tiny babies inside them but they just didnt make it out, i think Apollo was just too overwhelmed to cope with all the eggs and sometimes left them on the ground too long. right now i'm going to try suck all the unhatched eggs out so Apollo can rest. he's spending too much time trying to get them back in the nest and i dont think anymore will hatch at this late stage, or will they? im feeding Liquifry by interpets as i havnt been able to source any brine shrimp cultures and it was abit short notice, i will just have to keep up with regular small water changes until i can turn the filter on and move the fry onto bigger food. everything seems to be going well so far, i moved mom out this morning and Apollo will have to be moved possibly tomorrow or the day after, soon as all the fry are free swimming. keep fingers crossed thy make it, if they do there should be some interesting colours and patterns, Apollos fins are still growing in and they going to be interesting make no mistake.

sooo i got about 10 surviving lil bettas that are just big enough now that you can make out that there is a tail fin on the end lol. i'm still feeding the liquifry food which also encourages insophoria growth so its looking pretty good. dad was moved out on the second day of the fry becoming free swimming as he just wouldnt let them swim lol. both mom and dad are in the 1.2m community and have each staked out a territory around a different sword and seem to be doing well. dads getting some nice bluey green streaks in his fins. i'll try get pics tonight, i been crazy busy with test the last 2 weeks.
