Just wanted to share my surprise at finding a tank full of Endlers at our minute (and generally depressing) little pet store close to home. It usually stocks little except a few goldfish, guppies, mollies, convicts and maybe a pleco or two. Turns out there is a breeder locally that imported stock from overseas two years ago, and he delivers a steady supply, every two to four weeks or so. PM me if anyone is interested in directions.

The pic attached is one of the males that I bought for my kids' tanks. They all look very similar, no fancy strains, just plain wild type (but still very pretty!).

My understanding is that Endlers differ in colour from guppies by having black elongated streaks rather than a few round spots, as well as metallic areas that are much more reflective than what's found in guppies. In addition they have those long orange stripes, that are not seen in wild guppies. That said, there is still considerable variation in both guppies and Endlers, to the extent that some features overlap. Mine don't have the intense and long black striping that is shown in the specimens discussed in the description of P. obscura, but in all other respects, they seem to be real Endlers and not guppies or hybrids.
@francoisve: If the wild types from Zanzibar look exactly like this, they must represent an import from Venezuela. It would be most interesting to know when and by whom they were introduced, and to see whether their genetic profile matches P.wingei or reticulata. Guppies are so ubiquitous in sub-tropical and tropical regions (having been introduced for mosquito control) that hybridisation is not out of the question in such populations, if Endlers were involved there at all. If it is a pure Endler strain, it would be remarkable, I think.
