About 6 weeks ago I purchased 7 angels - 4 black between the sizes 25mm to 30mm, 3 between 30mm to 35mm (2 koi + 1 golden) These were imported from Israel. I did this in order to get at least 1 breeding pair for the new year. I noticed that all the black angels were huddled to one side (6 days ago) They refused to take the live mosquito fry that I gave them nor the blood worms I offerd them later. Thinking that I had a nitrogen spike,I siphoned the tank and did a 50% water change. The next morning I noticed that the scenario had not changed & I noticed the Koi pair attacking the others. I transferred 5 of the angels to another tank. I noticed on the floor of the tank what looked like sand grains. On closer inspection using a hand lens.I found that they were tiny fry with their tails wrigling. By the afternoon all the fry were taken by the parents and placed on the glass on the far side of the tank. These fry are about to go free swimming, the ones that fall onto the floor are quickly picked up by the parents and placed with the others that are clinging vertically on the glass. I am reading the thread started by Gareth and I am noting the sound advice given by Veegal. I am anxiouslyawaiting the next stage & that is feeding baby brine shrimps.

Thanks for the encouragement. The fry are now free swimming, their swim action is still somewhat shaky. I am sure in a day or two they would be swimming strongly. At the moment they are swarming around in one corner with the parents attacking anything they feel is a threat. I just started with their first feed of baby brine shrimps.Hope to post a pic soon.

Wait, how big were they when they spawned? isn't 30 mm a bit small for them to be breeding..?

they might have had a stun in there growth and are much older than there size lets us think because angel can start to spawn any were from about 8 months or so I have read. so it is possible that the angels e bought were kept in small tanks for a long time.
    Just my thoughts thou.

They were imported from Israel and the importer has no idea of their age.I was surprised when I saw the eggs and the pair's behaviour towards the other angels which I purchased together with the intention of growing them to adult size. I must add that the fry are growing at a rapid rate, some colouaration is evident.
