There is a company advertising on 702 radio a U.P.S.( uninterrupted power supply) that will keep a couple of lights on, the computer and the T.V. on for up to 8 hours. Cannot remember the companies name right now but the price they are talking about is R 1 900.00 So I was thinking - has any member connected their tank electricity supply to a U.P.S.unit. If so, what size are you using and is it a good idea? I know that most tanks and fish can last for 6-12 hours without electricity - but I reckon R 1 900.00 is worth the investment considering how much I have spent on my tank and fish!!! Anybody got experience of U.P.S. and using one or is it REALLY not worth the money ?
I use an inverter for my water and air pumps. Because of the total volume of water in my fish room, it would take a long time to cool down, so I don't bother with electrical heating backup. I do have a paraffin heater as backup, but up to now, it was not necessary to use it. R1900 sounds a bit rough though. I paid less than R1000, including a new car battery. You don't need a UPS, as in inverter will do. You only need uninterrupted power for data backup etc.
