True fresh water puffers

    Any one know where to get a fresh water puffer my son is keen on a puffer but only if its z true fresh water puffer not interested in the brack water sp .

    Where are you based?

    Freshwater puffers include:
    Dwarf
    Red eye
    South American
    Hairy (lurker)
    Congo (lurker)

    Those are the smaller ones usually kept

    Saw some nice puffers at wazeers aquarium. I think they grow big but they look stunning

    Dwarf puffers would be the best, Ruan Britz also got hairy puffers recently if you have a decent tank :)

    Yes, the Asian puffers should be the best. Dwarfs also don't require any teeth trimming.
    Carinotetraodon travancoricus - dwarf pufferfish
    Carinotetraodon imitator - dwarf Malabar pufferfish
    Carinotetraodon irrubesco - red-tail redeye pufferfish
    Carinotetraodon lorteti - redeye pufferfish

    The only African one that is small is the extremely rare and expensive spotted Congo puffer, Tetraodon schoutedeni. About $300 for one.
    The South American puffer, Colomesus asellus is also is a nice choice, but their teeth might need to be trimmed after a while. On the plus side they are the most sociable species.

    Current going rate overseas is abot $100-150. Very expensive here :(
