Ok guys and girls, here are the facts. I am so excited about these Tropica Products, I am going to preempt a whole bunch of questions which will be flying around when the products finally land...

This is the technical data on the Tropica Plant growth substrate system.

Ok, so basically, you cap the product with normal aquarium gravel. It will replace the PFP and chemicult system, as it will be affordable to pretty much everyone. The below graphic will show you how much you need for your tank size, and as you can see, it's VERY economical.

It will come in 2 sizes, 1L and 2.5L.

@Sean J, any ideas on costs just yet or will you only really be able to give us an idea once the first shipment has landed? What other products will be available from Tropica and what will the costs be?

Costs on the Substrate... I can give you an estimate, but it could change by a few rand either way...

Costs removed due to customs insanity... I'll update again soon.

Not yet. It arrives at the end of the month. It's on a boat at the moment.

Don't want to turn this into a "How To" thread, but I saw a YouTube Vid the other day where a aqua scaper, not sure who, used a combo of Aqua Soil (the Ada one I think) and the Tropica substrate. Is this a nice to have/luxury? Or overkill?

Oliver Knott does this. I think it's overkill. It will definitely make the substrate more nutritious, but Aquasoil is already an amazing substrate. This stuff you use, if you don't have the budget for Aquasoil, or, if you want to create a slightly different layout using different types of gravel.

Any stores in PTA? Petstop perhaps? If it's at a non-sponsored LFS, please drop me a PM.

Can you add these after you filled up your tank with water?

@The_Fish_Guy I am not sure that would be good idea as it will/might make your water murky and float around your tank

I was just wondering about this too... I have a 4ft tank waiting for substrate - not too patiently I might add :)

It's on route to me. I should have it by Friday, so it should be hitting stores from this weekend! Already have confirmed orders in joburg, Pretoria and cape town.
