    Hi guys and gals,

I made a big mistake by not putting a betta I saved last weekend into QT. I have noticed ich on his fins this morning. Can someone recommend a product I can get locally for treatment. Thus far was looking at either paraguard or bio-elite ich which is a more natural treatment. Any one have experience with either products?

We usually use Paraguard 8and push the temperature up to 28°. It usually does the trick.

Hi @scotty_88 I don’t have experience with bettas and don’t know how they react to meds, salts or heat. What else do you have in the tank? Plants, invertebrates?

Last year when I had a crisis in the 180L due to adding unquarantined rummy noses, lots of people helped:

The first thing I noticed was ich, for which paraguard worked very well. It will most likely kill snails though. My shrimp were fine.

Just bump your temp to 28 degrees, it should clear up in about 3 days,

Hi guys, thanks for the quick replies. Stocking is 5 tetras and about 20 red cherry shrimp. I learnt the lesson the hard way with an impulse buy due to me feeling sorry for this little guy. Going to crank the Temps today a bit and add a airstone as a precaution. Will check out betta max temp before I proceed tho. The tetras probably will become stressed at these Temps.

Which tetras? Rummy nose and Cardinals can go high.

Bettas can handle high temps, so it should be fine as long as it's strong enough.

It is recommended to raise the temperature to about 28°C for 10 days, and add salt which kills the Ich.
After 3 days the visible Ich may disappear but there could still be undeveloped Ich in the tank.
You need them to complete their life cycle before lowering the temperature again.

Paraguard works very well for ich, and supposed to be invertebrate safe.

    Hey werner,

They are ember tetras. I have my heater set to 27 and will go up to 28 tomorrow. Picking up some meds tomorrow morning and will dose the entire tank to break the cycle

Just a small update here. I have managed to get bio elite anti ich on Saturday and I have since noticed an improvement. Temps are at 28 c just to cater for the tetras. Just to let everyone know that paraguard is not safe for invertebrates-the bottle clearly states as such. Bio elite was the most natural product I could find!

Thanks for all the assistance [IMG]

No problem. I swear by the Bio Elite stuff, it's natural and safe. Won't destroy your shrimps, snails or scaleless fish.

I also recommend their anti stress treatment and daily tonic works wonders for fish that have damaged fins or have wounds.
