    Hey guys

    I just started running carbon with an airpump connected to a corner filter in a 20 litre bucket that I keep my water change water in. Is this a good idea or not? I also treat the water with a conditioner and was wondering if the carbon will absorb the conditioner.

    Are there any benefits to what I'm doing? If so, please do tell.

    Thanks
    Luke

    Not sure why you would want to do that to be honest.

    I treat my water with conditioner and then into the tank it goes.
    The only time I use carbon (and in my filter), is if there are any meds that I want to remove from the system.

    @Reedfish

    I think its a South African thing to run charcoal as a "Miracle Product". I know when I started out, the lps pushed charcoal like it was more important that water. I agree that it does give the tank a polished appearance, and this is why the lps pushes it, but personally, a well maintained tank looks just as good.

    It wont do you any harm to be pre filtering your water through charcoal, there's a lot of people who do, it just may not be necessary.

    I don't do it. I stopped using charcoal AGES ago. I only considered using it the other day with a tank had some tannins leaching. I don't know what Gonubie water is like, but I dechlorinate my tank for the amount of water I will be putting in and then use the water straight from the tap into my tank.

    @Zoom. Lots of people in the UK think so too.
    Particularly since the manufacturers of filters suggest that you change the carbon in the filters once a month. (Gee, I wonder why?? - ££)

    As I said, I don't bother with it.
    I have used the extra space in my filter for more ceramic media.
