Hi everyone. So as the title suggests is there something that members are doing to prevent or slow down bba from growing on drift wood ? I have had driftwood in my tank before and it seems to be a magnet for bba . I do have minimal bba on my filter outlet but that’s about it. I just want to add hardscape to my tank but it becomes a fuzz ball. I have in the past spot treated with hydrogen peroxide but it keeps returning.

I've found seachem flourish excel works wonders for most algae control. Maybe give that a try? otherwise SAEs keep it under control pretty well

BBA is a whole topic on it's own. It's not just growing on your hardscape, it is lurking everywhere in your tank. The wood just give it a stronghold where it can attach itself. Regular, constant water changes helps or what F-Fish did adding air and airstones. Overfeeding?

Easy, take a bucket add I cup normal bleach (Blue Bottle), and 18 cups normal tap water. You can then leave your driftwood/rocks and other ornaments in there for 5-10 minutes. Once done rinse in normal tap water and put in a bucket with some normal tap water and de-chlorinator for the same amount of time.

You can do the exact same with your plants but you need to dip them for 3 minutes only and follow the same steps as above. I have done this multiple times in the past. It kills off all the algae.

I have found excel to be not as effective as hydrogen peroxide . I was using 12% . I dont overfeed .And do WC religiously . Even slow growing plants tend to attract it . I have done the H202 bomb combo numerous times . Was hoping that there is a method out there to slow down the growth of BBA on hardscape . Eliminating it 100% is near impossible IMHO. A newly setup display tank at Aqua Empire had a stunning piece od drifwood in it but after 3-4 weeks BBA took hold . So this is not inherently a problem in my tank but in others as well . Thanks for all the advice .

I struggled a lot with BBA in a previous setup too - no matter how much manual pruning, chemicals, etc i tried it always came creeping back. After i did a totally fresh scape it hasn't come back at all.
    I found this page: https://www.advancedplantedtank.com/blogs/algae-control/how-to-control-bba
The observations listed are that it is due to CO2 fluctuations, high levels of organic waste (probably in the substrate) and/or excessive flow. Do you do much in the way of managing the aquasoil? Using a turkey baster to blast mulm and detritus out of the aquasoil works pretty well, especially on a larger tank. I just direct the filter outlet at various parts of my tank before i do a water change to get the muck lifted up
