I have attempted, but in all honesty it's difficult. Without a fume hood and sterile equipment it's near impossible. A previous fish shop owner spent many tens of thousands sterilizing a room for making his own tissue cultures. Past that you need the right mix of nutrients and growing hormones, of which there are several. I tried with agar gel in boiled jars with bleached plant samples. After a few weeks bacterial growth took hold and the plants had all died. Sorry for all the negativity, it's something best left for those in the industry. Emersed growing is much easier!

There is a lab in the Cape that will grow plants for you but you need to order 10 000 plants at a time or more. What am i going to do with 10 000 aquariem plants lol. And the price for these plants are fery expensif. I checked the weekend R150 for 5 or 4 smal plant may be 3 cm long. And that just not to get snails. I feed the normal aquarium snails toe the snails in my 6 feet aquarium. I get half a teespoon of snails in die koi pond filter every second week and drop then in my 6 feed tank for food for my other snails in there. But some of the plants you just get in the small containers. And some fish will go first for the R150 plants and pul it out and eat it half way if you put it in the tank.

You're all alot braver than I, I wouldn't even attempt tissue culturing, the logistics must be a nightmare

I want to try non-aquatic plants (I have a big cactus & fern collection) and want to try and multiply the rarer material.
Agree with above. Unless you spend a huge amount of money on the sterile equipment it's almost impossible to do. And it's a big investment unless you are going to generate substantial income from it.

Ferns are quite simple in comparison. A lot of people do it in petri dishes, you should check it out on YouTube :)

I grow thousands of ferns from spore. It's quite easy.
But I have some plants that seem reluctant to produce spores.

Many moons ago I came across a post on tissue culture and tried a very crude plastic tub glove box. Drilled holes in the side, inserted pvc drain pipe sleeve and inserted rubber gloves. Vacuum hood via a filtered fan and pvc drain piping. It was painfully Ghetto and the idea was stolen from a mushroom growing forum. Looking back my failure was not the box, but everything else that was badly sterilized
