Hey. can i get some tips from you guys about catching fish. I've been sitting for an hour now trying to catch 7 convicts. the tank has lots of caves and plants and i don't want to uncover the palm fibre peat.

Me too! Sometimes thats the only way!

Also, move the net slowly so as not to startle them, until you are close enough to catch them.

Another method is to place a big net in the tank, and keep it still, and then use the smaller net to chase them into the bigger net!

    Cheers
    G!

Turn lights off. Put headlight onto head. (The one with the red LED option) Put on the RED light... and catch. No need to chace, no need to get wet. Usually VERY effective. Just have your wife ready to turn the ligths back on when you've caught the bugger. Transferring him to another tank, tripping over the cat in the dark could prove disasterous. (for the fish too!)

or depends on the size of the fish, you can build a trap out of a 2liter coke bottle and insert food in the bottle and whola

method: cut coke bottle about 1cm from where the 45degree area from the nek meet the large flat surface, now take this piece and insert the cap end first into the botle and use a stapler to fasten to botle and now youve got a trap. (hope you understand)

Interesting methods. I have and still use the 2 net method, most of the time one. I have also used the method when they are sleeping very effective. I will try the way zoom has mentioned. This makes it abit easier to see the fish that you want. I will try it this weekend as I have a few fish carrying that I wouldnt mind catching.

If possible, I prefer to catch catfish with a plastic container; either a tub that fits into the tank or otherwise a plastic bottle with the smaller top part cut off. Catfish get entagled in nets very easily, and it's best to avoid getting them caught in the material, which is not only very stressing for them, but also can be potentially harmful to them as well.

For my schooling fish I use a plane of glass that I put in the corner with a opening, like a door almost. Chase the suspect into the corner with my net and then just close the glass all the way.

Depending on the size of the convicts .... this works for small fish (500ml bottle) ... holes are to drain water while pulling the bottle out.

I would like to suggest you smooth the burr of the holes, as it could injure the fish!

That's an interesting trap. I wonder if it can be modified to catch snails?

Zoom - yes it works for snails ...
GC - holes in the this case made with a soldering iron ... so they should be ok, but yes point taken.
