Hey guys, any tips for adding wood to a new aquarium?

    -Best Wood Types?
-Methods used to get rid of the tannins?
-Best practice for NO water discoloration?
-Best place to shop for aquarium wood pieces?

I'm looking for some nice wood decor for my Jebo R362 108.8l (30gal):wondering:
Going to buy the substrate this weekend...

if possible boil the wood for as long as possible to get rid of the tannins, it can take a long time,

not true butcherman - i added 2 packets (treats 800L) into my Eheim Pro3E on my 600L tank and i am yet to see a change. its been in there a week and the water still looks the same. the only time i see a change in tannins is when i do a water change

That would depend on the size of the wood and the size of your pot. I soaked mine in a bath of hot water for about 2 weeks changing the water every 12 hours. And I am still having tannin leaching out.....

wood can leach out alot of tannins you might never get it all out.
@henk maybe your tannins are leaching faster than what your purigan can absorb?

Henk, if Purigen doesn't remove the tannin in your tank, I would say you have a problem. 100 gr of Purigen clears my tank (400 lt) in 3 days.

I myself use purigen to clear tannins in my tanks too... Works like a bomb.

I just add the wood to my tanks, but I do keep a few blackwater species of fish, and fish that like soft water, so I don't mind the staining in most of my tanks. But, soaking the wood in a bath for a few months will work, just drain the water every couple of days and add new water. Not a quick fix though.

+1 on the Purigen clearing a tank. I probably used half the recommended dosage for my system ~400l and it cleared the tannins within 3 days.

I get tannins from driftwood as well as Sera Peat, so my water was really brown

My tannins diasppeared overnight with Purigen.

Then again, I added the entire 100g sack to my 160l tank... so probably overdosed it.

purigen bought and added to my tank filter, its now becoming clear brown, i cn actually see the rocks and wood etc in my tank now

    its day one...
i took a gander at the little packet i made up and its brown all around the outside, so i just shifted the beads around a bit and stuck it back in

purigen is expensive stuff but it works!
    +1

no need to be sorry, i'm happy it works, i decided to buy it after scouring the internet and this forum for reassurance on my semi-investment (semi as in, it can be regenerated, but eventually will have to be replaced.)

I bought a bottle and had a very old hagen ammosorb packet i cut open and replaced contents with the beads, the holes are tiny but still let some beads out, a tiny bit, so i pulled a small piece of cut stocking over the sealed bag. how does everyone else use this stuff?

btw, what to use to regenerate this stuff?
i'm guessing the cheapest bleach on the market? i found some OMO bleach in the wash cupboard, but it looks jel-ish, so i thought the CHEAPEST bleach out there will only have what i need to reactivate when the time comes, i dont want jel crap or a nice smelling packet, just the brown to go white again?

Any opinion, comment, help, confirmation on the logic of my cheap-hypotisis?
