    hi again
So I have a 30 gallon that I want to build a filter system for. Something similar to this:

I already have a sheet of acrylic at home that I thought I might use.

The issue is, it’s clear acrlic and I don’t really want the filter looking so exposed as this tank will go in the living area.

Will there be a way to tint the acrylic safely? I have seen some sheets of tint online but i’m not sure if it will hold, especially since most work without adhesive. My local hardware store has a spray-type frosting but I am worried it might release chemicals in the tank. Any suggestions?

    Hi Jandre

I sprayed my PVC overflow with black Rustoleum plastic paint. It sticks to plastic and looks good. I let it cure for a week then rinsed it in salt water for a few hours. It's been running in my tank for 6 months no issue.

Hmmm. I could give that a try. Thanks!
But do you have paint in the inside as well, where the water touches?
In my case the entire plane will be touching the water

Ja, I painted in the tubes. Once fully cured it's aquarium safe. Just a very expensive spray paint.
Paint the inside, not the outside of the acrylic then it will look awesome from the outside, like a triple clear coated 1987 GTi in Durban.

    Haha
Will add a v8 pump for the return...
You have not tried any other brand? I will have to check what our local shops have.

This is the glass frosting I was talking about. Same brand, but not sure about the bond/chemical release. It’s probably made to bond with glass...

I am guessing that plastic paint won’t work on the glass, because I will have to tint the tank as well on that section. I can just use a tint sheet, but I’m just trying to avoid more expenses

    Auto tint isn't too expensive. I think it's like R50 for 3m
