I have heard and seen them and would like to keep some at some stage but due to there threaten status (Tilapia guinasana). I don't think i will ever see them in my tank.

These guys are only, to my knowledge, found in two sinkhole systems in Namibia. Besides limited distribution, they're also threatened by nearby developments... sad thing for such a pretty fish.

Very, very unlikely to make it to the aquarium trade, but I rate it is for the best.

Hi Guys, I have acquired few of these Guinasana fish.
I am a breeder or (normal) tilapia mozambique, sparrani etc. I have had them for a few months now and still working on a breeding setup for these.
Hopefully all goes well, as we are coming into winter I have moved them into indoor tanks for now.
Lets see if I can get a few breeding now.

Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden used to have a good few, then an otter family came through and ate most (or so it is said). There is just a lonesome one chilling in a pond outside.

I really hope you succeed with them. I've wanted some for decades!
I'd definitely be interested. I'm into aquaculture, and have a number of dams and tanks that I can dedicate to them for their own spacious setup!
I do have a license to breed Oreochromis nilotocus too. This winter I'm raising rainbow trout.

there are also a good number in Kirstenbosh. they came from Pretoria zoo.

@Derek Tilapia guy where did you acquire them from

I would also be on the list to get a few for my outside pond

its funny how the pet trade can prevent a sad event like a species going extinct, I hope you get them breeding soon!

I recall that they were in Kirstenbosh, however no more. They were all removed ... " some ended up elsewhere "
    A very interesting fish.
When i got them a few months ago, they were normal in color but after a little while started to change colors ,, blues, pinks, blackish etc.
a very similar species to sparrmanii species.
I will take a few pics when I move them next. I am trying to disturb them as little as possible at the moment.
