Hi there, I got a load of fish from a friend emptying out his tanks. Have some wrongly identified fish it seems to me, One tiger scat (given to me as a leaf fish) and a mono. (Pics scavenged off google earth but looks just like mine :p)

As these fish are more brackish/salt water species I'd rather let someone else have them in a brackish setup.

As Mono's get older they want to be more in saltwater .. gave mine to Two Oceans Aquarium.

yeah, that might be an idea, he seems happy enough for now though, might have a identity crisis cause it just hangs out with the silver dollars all day.

Give your Scat lots of veggies - they love green foods! Really, the love all foods... but with that being said, keep an eye on your water quality. They can make a huge mess and you should keep up with your water changes.

If possible, move them to a brackish setup ASAP. Only the adults really like marine waters.

    Wish you were closer! :D

Thank you! Have a 50l tank cycling at the moment. will probably move them over there.. what SG rating is best to keep a scat, and the mono too?
not sure how old they are, scat about 7-8cm

At that size, try to keep them in water between SG 1.005 and 1.010, anything in that range will suit them just fine. Once the get to the 15cm mark or so, then you can consider them for a marine setup.

aah, thank you, just got wide range of numbers when searching around but that range seems like a good place to start.. will probably ramp it up slowly anyway to let them get used to it.

That's good - never increase salinity too fast. Different people will recommend different things, but I like to move between 0.002 and 0.004 per week. It may seem slow but rushing never helps anything.

very true, I wont be happy either if I'm swimming along in a fresh mountain stream and suddenly have a mouth full of sea water.
