    Hey guys

So I am pretty keen on getting a good couple of Tiger Barbs into my tank.

I just need to know if they will be ok with my other fish because I've heard they can be pretty aggressive.:tongue-smiley-8866:

Link to my tank : http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/showthread.php?19123-First-Planted-Tank

Thanks guys I really hope I would be able to keep them but I have a feeling I won't be able to

They are fin nippers... but... they're ok in groups of more than 5.... don't keep less!.....

I've been reading a couple other forums and ppl say they wouldn't recommend having them in with Discus. Maybe @The BARB King can give some advice here ?

Wouldn't try it. Did it waaaaaaaay back when in my first ever tank and:

    a. The are too active and
    b. They nip and I seriously doubt that the water parameters will sustain barbs.

I would personally not add Tiger barbs in this specific setup if you did not have the discus in then yes a group of 15-20 tiger barbs would be no problem.

Once again on the nipping issue everyone talks about, they will only nip fins of other fish if their group is not big enough.

When their group is nice and big 15-20 then they get rid of their aggression between each other in the group, then you have sub-lime that keeps 6 tiger barbs with other community fishes and he has got no issues think he only has around 6.

I've got my barbs (6 of them) with my angels and other community fish all of them live happily together.

The Barbs will be too active for the more docile Discus and will stress them. Rather go for a tetra species.

Just my 2 pennies worth... I am absolutely with OBI on this.... I will comfortably put (a minimum of 5/6) Tigers in with Angels and/or Discus... and have done so before with no incident.... Only fish I will not trust them with are Male Guppies or Bettas.... those long vibrating fins attracts their attention ... even if I have 30 of them in the tank..... BUT... I will add... what works for one is not always the rule.... It worked for me.
